In second grade, students really begin to find and develop their voices through writing. Inside and outside of the writing curriculum, our students will develop a greater understanding of the conventions of writing as well as an appreciation for expressing themselves in different ways.
Our Writing Curriculum is based on the New York State Next Generation English Language Arts Learning Standards. We use a writing workshop model supported by the Teachers' College Reading and Writing Project, which includes seven distinct units, as shown below.

Unit 4: Writing About Reading
Unit 5: Writing Gripping Fictional Stories
Unit 6: Lab Reports and Science Books and/or Nonfiction Writing Projects
